CRNA Luncheon Organized by Wallena Gould
Hi my name is Diane Dy. Just this past weekend, I attended the CRNA luncheon organized by Wallena Gould which was held at the university of Maryland school of nursing. I just want to share my experience with all of you. I could not believe how much information I have gained just by being there, by interacting with SRNA's and CRNA's and especially talking to Ms Lena and Mr John Bing. I also had the pleasure of listening to Dr. Alves presentation about the program in northeastern and the history of anesthesia. For those of you who do not know, anesthesia is a practice of nursing!;) and not medicine...and I think it is an awesome nursing specialty! I want to thank Ms Lena Gould for organizing this event and for her time in mentoring minority nurses wanting to pursue this wonderful profession. I cannot even begin to imagine how hectic life must be for Lena being a CRNA, going to school for PhD, having a family and running a huge program such as this. You truly have great impact in the anesthesia profession and in changing people's lives. You are an inspiration to me. What really caught my attention and brought addition to my awe in the profession of nurse anesthesia, is how everybody came together...as one team, as one family. This is the part where I said to myself, "yes, this is where I want to be, I want to be part of this family." It almost brought tears to my eyes and made my heart melt when I met such wonderful
people like Lukeythia, Jessica, and Annie. My friend and I were looking for a table to sit for lunch and they had invited us over to sit with them (since we probably looked lost and feeling isolated haha). It was the best lunch ever though and they were very encouraging and helpful
and that gave us more inspiration. You know, a good friend once told me 90% in life is what's given to us by chance, but 10% is what we do with it. So as for me, I want to make sure I make something good out of it, and CRNA would be my life choice! After all, life is what you make it! As Dr. Alves said, most people grow old and regret the things that they should have done as opposed to the things that they have done. And P.S., there is statistics involved in this!;) I guess my point is, don't let the road blocks to your dreams let you down! ...as for the CRNA route, we are not alone, Great people like Ms Lena and Mr John Bing are there to help you.
