Position Overview
This position teaches, oversees, coordinates, and markets the Speech Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) program at the college. The instructor will also provide instruction and coordination/marketing of the general Education courses as appropriate. Courses are delivered via online, video conference, face-to-face and/or a combination of these methods.
Terms of Employment
50 percent, 180 day academic year assignment.
Teaching assignment may include the use of non-traditional delivery methodologies; e.g. telecourses, and on-line/internet courses. Duty days may fluctuate from the traditional September-June schedule. Recently hired faculty are expected to participate in a new faculty orientation.
Salary and Benefits
2006/2007 Salary Range: $18,702.50 to $32,313.50/yr. (2007/2008 salary schedule to be determined). Hires will normally be at Step 3 ($19,887.50/yr) depending on education and experience.

Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree from an accredited institution in Speech-Language-Pathology/Communication Disorders. Current Certificate of clinical Competence from the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA-CCC). Current Licensure from the Oregon Board of Examiners in Speech Language Pathology. Three years’ experience working as a Speech-Language Pathologist. The ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, educational partners, and community members who span a diverse range of cultures, languages, nationalities, and educational experiences.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supervising a speech-language pathology assistant (SLPA) in a public school setting. Wide range of clinical experience with clients of various ages and disability categories (Autism, AAC, etc.). Demonstration of successful teaching or training experience. Knowledge and experience in incorporation of general education curriculum in therapy planning, goal selection, and outcome. The desire, ability, and dedication to use cutting-edge technology as an effective instructional tool in the face-to-face and distance delivery of courses. A sound understanding of the community college learning environment and a commitment to the comprehensive community college mission. A desire and commitment to create a classroom environment focused on active learning in which all students are welcomed and encouraged to participate.
Essential Functions
- Teaches the Speech Language Pathology Assistant program courses and develops new courses according to market demands
- Teaches general Education program courses as appropriate
- Utilizes coordination and marketing knowledge and tools in order to effectively build and maintain the SLPA program
- Work closely with educational and community partners in fostering relationships
- Maintains an awareness of current trends in the SLPA and general education field and incorporate these trends within instruction
- Maintains regular office hours, provides timely responses to student inquiries, and advises/assists students so that they become more likely to succeed both within their Chemeketa experience and the broader educational community.
- Actively participate with other faculty in regular departmental duties and in the on-going planning, oversight, and assessment of the Education program college curriculum
- Actively participate in college committees as a representative of the Education program
- Embraces appropriate technology tools to accomplish job functions; understands and utilizes available technology as communication and data-gathering tools and integrates technology into curriculum and classroom presentations
- Understands, develops, and provides a learning environment that supports diversity and incorporates a sensitivity to diversity into the workplace
- Functions as a lifelong learner
