ASSIGNMENT
Full-time instructors are typically assigned 15 lecture hours of student contact time (or equivalent in laboratory or related activities) per semester. Office hours are required. Instructors are expected to participate in college governance through appointments to standing councils and/or a variety of committees. Teaching assignments may include a mixture of day, evening, weekend, and off-campus sites, or in a distance education environment (On-Line).
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
- The Allied Health instructor provides for those interested in entering the fields of certified nursing and home health aide.
- Informs students about course requirements, evaluation procedures and attendance requirements.
- Maintains necessary attendance, scholastic and student records, and submits them according to published guidelines.
- Develops, maintains and evaluates curriculum and makes recommendations to maintain program currency.
- Identifies and uses learning outcomes and assessment that lead to course program improvements.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s Degree and two years full-time experience as a Registered Nurse OR an Associate’s Degree and six years full-time experience as a Registered Nurse OR the equivalent* AND one year of experience as a licensed nurse providing direct patient care in a long term care facility AND one year of direct patient care in home health care setting. In addition, one year of experience planning, implementing and evaluating educational programs in nursing; OR Two years of full time experience as a licensed nurse, at least one year of which must be in the provision of direct patient care in a nursing facility. Prior to teaching, a minimum of 24 hours of continuing education courses in planning, implementing and evaluating educational programs in nursing is required.
Current and valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in California is required.
*Those who do not possess the minimum qualifications as listed, must request an equivalency form at the time of application.
Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural, disability, and ethnic background of community college students.
SALARY AND BENEFITS
$39,100 - $51,700
Initial placement on the Certificated Salary Schedule will be commensurate with education and experience not to exceed Step 7, Column B ($51,700). The District provides an excellent health and welfare package which includes medical, dental, vision, life insurance and income protection. Current cost to employee not to exceed $1,200 per year. Enrollment in the State Teachers Retirement System (STRS) is required. Position is within the BCFA/CTA Bargaining Unit and subject to Association dues.

Environment: Classroom/Lab
Physical Abilities: Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate program-related equipment, standing for extended periods of time, reaching overhead and above shoulders, walking, bending, hearing and speaking to exchange information, and seeing to observe students at work.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
A full-time, 10 - month, certificated position. Prior to employment, the successful candidate will be required to provide proof of legal residence entitling them to work in the United States, consistent with the Immigration and Reform Act of 1986. Employment is also dependent upon a satisfactory fingerprint check and tuberculosis examination.
