Getting into a CRNA School
Hello everyone. Iam a 26 year old male nursing student from Guinea, West Africa. I need help on deciding the route in to getting into a CRNA program. I just don't know what to do right now.. I will be graduation with my associates degree in Registered Nursing in May 2011. I also have a previous bachelors degree in Political Science and international relations. My problem is that my my GPA in my Associate RN degree is low (a 2.4)because of my first year unserious behavior in collge. But my GPA in My bachelors degree is a 3.0. I don't know if I should apply to those rn to MSN programs for fall 2012 like at Columbia University which offers this or other universities that enable you to go straight from RN to a masters while working in the ICU in the meantime or should I get into a RN to BSN program and try get a high GPA and then apply to the CRNA program. I was also have been considering the NP program. But I am just looking for guidance for what to do to make sure I get into a school. I am really looking towards the RNto MSN programs but I just don't know if its possible in my situation. I know that there are a couple of schools that don't have a secific GPA requirement like Columba U. butyou mst take the GRE and have other credentials.. Please give me any input. Thank you!!!!

Firstly, did you acquire

If not then I believe that there is a process with an international organization that must verify your degree and credentials before you may submit an application to a US school. Also you must take the TOEFFL exam.
When you pursue your BSN will you be working or not working. Most accellerated BSN programs or BSN-MSN programs are very rigorous and you might not want to risk doing poorly d/t the fast paced nature of the curriculum or the need to work. I would suggest taking your time with the BSN so that you can assure that you receive excellent grades because the NA admission's committee will need to see a huge improvement.
I suggest looking online for all the requirements of the BSN programs that you are interested in to see if you fit the requirement for admission, email the programs with questions on how you may make yourself a better canidate, and make a spread sheet of costs/ location/ time committment ect to help you choose the best program.
On a side note: I personally never liked the idea of nurses receiving their NP without working on a respective unit first (I don't beleive clinical rotations are enough time to practice). I'm just an RN and have never worked in HR but I would think that it would be a negative on their application. However this isn't possible for a CRNA degree.
Good luck and stay positive!!
