How To Find A Nurse Anesthesia Program/Lena Gould, CRNA, MSN
Hello My Future Colleague!
If you are interested in pursuing the Nurse Anesthesia profession, your search should begin by visiting our professional association, American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA) website. Please visit www.aana.com and click on the far left side of the screen and scroll down to Professional Development, then click Nurse Anesthesia Education, and finally, Accredited Programs. The individual programs can be chosen as you click Select State, then Query.
Most notable is the application deadline for each Nurse Anesthesia Program and their own website. Review each program of interest and peruse the website on their application process, admission requirements, standardized tests, actual start dates and length of program. The actual start dates may be in September, January, or May. Find out if there is an open house and attend this informational forum to gain specific information in regards to admission process, shadowing experience, clinical affiliations, didactic courses and much more .
Review the curriculum and compare with other programs. Many of the Nurse Anesthesia Programs are housed in Schools of Nursing and others in Allied Health Programs. Some of the Nurse Anesthesia Programs are transitioning into the Doctoral of Nurse Practice (DNP) as entry for prospectives.
If you can, speak to a CRNA or a Nurse Anesthesia Student and find out about the reputation of the program itself and their own experience as well. If you have any further questions and need to speak to a Program Director, ensure that you find out as much as possible on your own before calling as their schedule is extremely busy. Upon completion of your application and before actual submission, forward your essay to someone who can proofread it to ensure a well written and persuasive letter. In regards to shadowing experience and your essay, please scroll down on the Nurse Anesthesia Forum and click on "Response to Shadowing/Lena Gould, CRNA, MSN" and "Response to Personal Statement/Lena Gould, CRNA, MSN".
