POSITION TITLE:
Assistant Professor in Nursing/Tenure track
Area of Specialization: Geriatric-Adult Nursing
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of the undergraduate and graduate nursing programs particularly the components of the curriculum related to Adult-Geriatric nursing practice and use of the nursing process. Responsible for classroom and clinical teaching of undergraduate and graduate students at all levels of the curriculum with particular academic classroom instruction that focuses on geriatric nursing practice and the clinical management of the older adult. Effective teaching will encompass the integration of the nursing process, critical thinking with professional development to encourage students as independent learners and decision makers. Actively participates in scholarly work and service related activities particular to his/her area of specialty and/or interests.
REQUIRED AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Requirement: An earned research doctorate in nursing or related field. A Masters degree in nursing and must be licensed or eligible for licensure in California. Academic teaching experience and scholarship with recent geriatric or adult clinical practice expertise is desired. Competency in academic program development, implementation and evaluation is desired. The ability to work and collaborated successfully within a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural setting.
Preferred qualifications: include masters in geriatric or adult nursing and/or certification as a geriatric nurse practitioner (GNP); college level teaching experience at undergraduate and graduate level; and, curriculum development at the college level.

POSITION DESCRIPTION-OVERVIEW
The School of Nursing at San Francisco State University invites applications for tenure -track position in nursing at the Assistant Professor level to begin in August of 2012. Faculty roles include: participation in the development, implementation and evaluation of the undergraduate and graduate nursing programs particularly those components of the curriculum related to medical-surgical nursing practice and use of the nursing process; integration and responsibility for classroom and clinical teaching of undergraduate and graduate student at all levels of the curriculum with particular emphasis on the nursing process, critical thinking, professional development and the provision of nursing care to patients with medical-surgical health problems; demonstration as an effective teacher that encourages learning and professional development of students; and, participation in scholarly work and service related to his/her specialty and interests. Requirements: earned research doctorate in nursing or related field; masters degree in nursing or related specialty; licensed or eligible for licensure in California; teaching experience; engagement in scholarship and service; experience in program development, implementation and evaluation; expertise and recent geriatric and adult clinical practice experience; and, interest in and ability to work successfully within a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural setting. Preferred qualifications: include masters in geriatric adult nursing and or GNP; college level teaching experience at undergraduate and graduate levels; and, curriculum development at the college level.
