Ross-Lee Named Association of Academic Health Centers Chairman of the Board

Barbara Ross-Lee, DO, FACOFP, vice president for health sciences and medical affairs and dean of the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT), was recently named chairman of the board of directors of the Association of Academic Health Centers at its annual meeting in Florida.

Before her appointment at NYIT in 2001, Dr. Ross-Lee served for eight years as the dean of the school of medicine and professor in the department of family medicine at Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Ross-Lee has held leadership positions in numerous federal, philanthropic and professional organizations including the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine where she served as chair of the Assembly of Presidents and the American Osteopathic Association Bureau of Professional Educators where she chairs the Minority Health Initiative. She has served on the Institute of Medicine’s Committee on the Future of Primary Care, the National Advisory Committee on Rural Health of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the National Health Service Corps’ Associations of Clinicians for the Underserved, and the Advisory Committee on Research on Women’s Health of the National Institutes of Health. She is also a Fellow of the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians.

Ross-Lee is the recipient of numerous awards for her distinguished work in the health sciences and public policy including the Patenge Medal of Public Service from Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine; the Women’s Health Award presented by the Blackboard African-American Bestsellers, Inc.; and the Magnificent Seven Award presented by Business and Professional Women/USA.

T. Michael Bolger, JD, president and chief executive officer of the Medical College of Wisconsin, has been named chair-elect of the board. Bolger is recognized as a national authority on health care law and as one of Milwaukee’s most prominent civic leaders.

Newly elected to the board for three-year terms are Richard H. Dean, MD, president and chief executive officer, Wake Forest University Health Sciences; and Nancy W. Dickey, MD, president and vice chancellor for health affairs, Texas A&M University Health Science Center; and I. Dodd Wilson, MD, Chancellor, University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.
