Response to Just Joined/Lena Gould, CRNA, MSN
Hello My Just Joined Nurse!
Congratulations in securing a MICU position immediately after graduating from nursing school. What were your grades like in the undergraduate program? Sit for your CCRN exam after the completion of your first year in the unit. In the meantime, this fall, take a graduate nursing course that can eventually be transferred to a nurse anesthesia program. Further, secure a shadow experience with a Nurse Anesthetist where you work at in the hospital. Before you commit to a particular school, please search extensively of nurse anesthesia programs from the AANA website, www.aana.com.
In order to appreciate the process and rigors of the program, refer to the this Nurse Anesthesia Forum and click on my posted comments, "Response to Personal Statements/Lena Gould, CRNA, MSN", "Response to Shadowing/Lena Gould, CRNA, MSN", and "Response to My Dream/Lena Gould, CRNA, MSN". This will answer many of your questions and or concerns. Also, on the Minority Nurse Magazine website homepage, please click on my article, Culturally Competent Nurse Anesthesia Care. To learn comprehensive information about the admission process, rigors of the program, Board preparation, and more, register for the Diversity in Nurse Anesthesia Information Session at Duke University (October 23, 2010) under EVENTs on the website, www.diversitycrna.org.
If you have any questions, please email me at crna4U@comcast.net. Join us on the Diversity in Nurse Anesthesia Mentorship Program Facebook page which can easily be accessed on the homepage of the website.
